“I’m not afraid of you now,

Villain and violent, infant and innocent

Baby, both arms cradle you now”

    ‘Recollections’ by Mabel McGregor

Hello and welcome to the Recollections website!

You can see this one-woman-show at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2026.

Recollections is a one-woman-show portraying the story of a woman who leads a simple, safe and perhaps mediocre life. She fears to live too much or let people get too close because she is convinced she is cursed.

Due to traumatic events throughout her childhood she suffers from Dissociative Amnesia. She has generalised and continuous dissociative amnesia meaning whole periods of time, relative to her childhood, are blocked out and days can often fade to a blur, as if she is operating on auto pilot.

When she learns she is pregnant, she must face the reality of her life and the choices before her. Does her DNA compose all of her being and what would this mean for her unborn child? Is being a bad person genetic? How can she be a good mother when she has never known what that’s like? What kind of life can she begin to lead going forward?

This play takes a light-hearted look at the disorder and uses humour to explore the condition of Dissociative Amnesia. Can she become more than she allowed herself without the weight of someone else’s behaviour? Come find out…
